A three-day long 22nd Biennial General Conference of the All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) commenced under the theme ‘’Leadership & Social Responsibility’’ at St Xavier College, Jalukie in Peren district on October 27.
Gracing the introductory session this evening, NagalandPower & Parliamentary Affairs Minister KG Kenye recalled how the union took shape during its initial years and evolved into the present-day ANCSU.He said the Union was formed in the interest of college students and took up many pressing issues.
Pointing out that student leaders of yesteryears had carried out their responsibilities by moving across every nook and corner of the state with great sacrifice, he said their efforts pushed forward the students’ cause in every possible way.
He asserted that labour, simplicity, dedication, honesty, commitment, and hard work had enabled the then leaders to become who they are today, and urged students to remain rooted in the virtues of their ancestors and elders.
Observing that ANCSU has produced some of the finest student leaders, Kenye called upon the members to collectively resolve the unresolved issues.
Kenye stated that even as a member of the state Cabinet, he still deals with some of the old issues he had worked on decades ago as a student leader.
He also spoke about how the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) 1873, now known as the Inner Line Permit (ILP), came into being for the protection of the Nagas, to preserve their land and identity — which, he said, has also benefited the people religiously through Christianity and educationally.
KibouwiZeliang, General Secretary, Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) shared solidarity message.ANCSU General Secretary Kivinoka A Sema presented general secretary report. The session was led by TemjennungsangJamir, member organizing committee while welcome address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Fr. Francis Cheerangal, Principal St Xavier College, Jalukie. Introductory remark was made by ANCSU social & cultural secretary Imnawabang T. Longkumer. The session also witnessed cultural show from Peren Government College and Patkai Christian College. Earlier, JiendaiGangmeri, pastor of Rongmei Baptist Church, Samziuram invoked God’s blessings.
‘Leadership & Social Responsibility’
Basing on the Conference theme, ANCSU stated that “This conference seeks to inspire and equip students to internalize the principles of ethical leadership and responsible citizenship.”
As we deliberate and exchange ideas, let us reaffirm our shared commitment to lead with conscience, to serve with humility and to build a society rooted in values and vision, it stated.
As students and young citizens of Nagaland, we are called to be the torchbearers of change, to question what is wrong, to innovate what is right and to lead not with ambition alone, but with conscience. Our generation has the power to redefine leadership from authority to service, from self-interest to collective progress, it stated.
“Let this gathering mark a collective journey toward nurturing leaders who lead not merely for recognition, but for transformation, leaders who understand that responsibility is the truest measure of leadership,” ANCSU stated in its theme note.
