During the period 2025-2026, under National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP), the leprosy programme achieved a major milestone in Nagaland with the Government of Nagaland declaring leprosy a notifiable disease on August 19, 2025, the report stated.

“This step marks a significant advancement in the state's commitment to eliminating leprosy and aligns with the National Strategic Plan and Roadmap for leprosy 2023-2027, which aims to interrupt transmission and achieve zero cases of leprosy by 2027,” the report stated.

The leprosy programme also observed Anti-Leprosy Day on January 30, 2026 across the State.

Furthermore, the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign was continued as a yearlong activity with the objective of reducing stigma and promoting early case detection.

The state remains committed to effective implementation of the leprosy programme in coordination with National guidelines, with the goal of achieving a leprosy-free Nagaland, the report stated.
