Lessons to learn from ZERO percent result

Hanso Chang
High School ‘B’, Tuensang

I am not at all disheartened to see a ZERO percent result of Government High School (GHS) Noksen when my fellow neighboring villagers applaud for at least 20-30% result. I appreciate our GHS Noksen for getting at least a 0% result, if I am not mistaken 0 is also a number. Good Lord! I do not blame the Government or the teachers or the students and parents. Rather, I see it as a transition period, for the GHS Noksen.

Speaking of the facts, different organizations spearheaded by Noksen Students Union (NSU) have worked tirelessly against the backdrop of mismanagement by the concerned authorities. However, after analyzing the reality faced by the students and teachers I am forced to put a finger on some notable institutions but it would be very unfair.

Some are good at learning things fast and some are slow or say very slow but at the end of the day they both end up learning. For which teaching stands as a backbone for all learners. They both should co-exist to complete the teaching-learning process.

However, education doesn't end at the teaching-learning process alone. The environment does play a very important role in the innocent minds of children. For which school infrastructure, teachers around them, innovative ideas and thoughts helps the children to crave more particularly for learning.

No matter how beautiful a building may look but its foundation or the pillars matters a lot. Likewise, for children to grow well-disciplined and manner their foundation is very important. Foundation starts at an early stage of human life; which includes parents, friends, kin, teachers, and so on. Life ends but learning has no boundary. A good foundation will bring up the best in the child and to do that parents and teachers are equally responsible for it I am saying it from the perspective of the teaching-learning process.

Some may say “moi kan laka time te toh candle laka niche te purishey” (in our times we studied under candlelight). I would like to ask, ‘where are your ancestor apes then?’ As we are taught humans evolved from apes; where are they now? I think generations have passed we are living in a world of computers and the internet. We are living in one of the most advanced civilizations to be called upon by the future generations to come. Don’t you think that it does have some impact on the lives of children living in rural areas? Or do we still expect them to live and think like that of primitive age?

My dear brothers and sisters like I stated in my first line let this zero % result be a transition period not only for the Noksen people but for all people living in remote areas. Let students, teachers, parents, and Social organizations/students organization collaborate and put a little more effort into the next result. Most importantly the Government particularly the Education Department should put a little more extra effort into bringing and molding up the lives of children living and studying in rural areas. I sincerely believe the literacy rate of Nagaland will drastically come to its lowest if private schools and colleges were left out of preview.

However, I sincerely do believe in the Education Department that it will come up with better techniques in improvising the educational system in Nagaland especially in rural areas.
