The Li-Ning46th Inter-district & State Open Badminton Championship 2024 concluded here at K Kire Badminton stadium, Chümoukedima Police Complex on August 2. Hosted by Nagaland Police, the closing ceremony was graced by Director General of Police (DGP), Nagaland, Rupin Sharma as special guest.

Sharma in his address mentioned that Nagaland has a burgeoning number of sportspersons across all disciplines and games. With this growth, he stressed for the need to improve the facilities of the state including the construction of more multipurpose stadiums in the different districts.

With the lack of employment opportunities in Nagaland, especially for those seeking a career as a sportsperson, the DGP suggested that some of them should be given the opportunity to be recruited in the police department whereby their talents can be best utilized. Sports is a risky career due to lack of job security even though one puts in a lot of hard work, he said.

Moreover, he added that it is not just about winning but inculcating a spirit of competition. “I hope that this culture of sport in Nagaland progresses much more,” the DGP stated.

During the programme, the Presidential address was delivered by Kesonyü Yhome, IAS and President of Nagaland Badminton Association while the welcome address was shared by Imnalensa IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police.
