Liangmai community in Maharastra celebrated Chaga Ngee at Andheri East, Mumbai on October 29.

Dimapur, October 31 (MExN): The Liangmai community in Maharastra celebrated Chaga Ngee, “a festival of blessing and sanctification” at Andheri East, Mumbai on October 29.
Chaga festival is one of the biggest festivals of the Liangmai Naga, beginning after the first full moonin the month of October. The festival reflects the rich culture, traditions, foods and lifestyle of the Liangmai people, informed a press release. It is a festival of victory, of abundance and fortune. The rituals of rekindling of fire in the hearths of Liangmai homes and sanctification of the body and household and starting everything anew. It is a month-long festival after the harvest, it said.
The event was graced by Dai Remmei, Addl Central Commissioner, Provident Fund, Ministry of Labour as Chief Guest, Ngonamai Lydia Keishing, Proprietor of Chun Cham Fashion Saloon Mumbai as the Chief Host, Dr M Maisuangdibo, Asst Professor, Union Biblical Seminary, Pune as speaker, Aking Niumei Session Artiste as special invitee and Hollang Ngonamai, Research Scholar, JNU presenting the keynote address on Chaga Ngee, with dignitaries from different tribes and organisation leaders of Mumbai witnessing the event.
On the occasion, Dai Remmai conveyed that such festivals are essential for preserving the culture and tradition and at the same time, sensitise the general public about the history and origin of how the Makuiluangdimai people shares the same attires, language and most importantly the feeling of brotherhood. Dr M Maisuangdibo expressed that religion in relationship with culture and tradition giving thanks to our Almighty is very important to have a progressive life.
