Longleng ADC issues directions on stray dogs

LONGLENG, OCTOBER 13 (MExN): The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Longleng, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, NCS, has directed all dog owners in Longleng town to keep their dogs secured within their premises and on a leash whenever taken outside, with immediate effect.

A circular issued by the ADC stated that a large number of dogs have been roaming freely in the town, causing public nuisance, scattering garbage on the streets and creating unhygienic conditions, besides posing potential risks to public safety. The circular stated that the directions were issued in the interest of “public health, cleanliness and safety.”

It further informed that the Longleng Town Council would undertake necessary measures to control free-roaming dogs within its jurisdiction. Dogs found roaming unattended in public places may be captured and handled in accordance with applicable animal welfare laws and regulations.

Owners may also be liable to penalties, wherever authorised under the applicable rules, and other appropriate action as per law. All concerned have been directed to comply with the order immediately.
