DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 13 (MExN): The College of Nursing, District Hospital Dimapur (DHD), held its second lamp lighting and oath-taking ceremony for BSc Nursing students at the Chapel Hall of DHD on October 13, with 39 students participating in the ceremony.
Medical Superintendent of DHD, Dr George Thirah, exhorted the students to become nurses whom patients could trust and rely on for care. He urged them to be the kind of nurses patients look forward to receiving care from, rather than those they cannot wait to see the end of their shift. He also encouraged the students to pursue opportunities abroad after graduation, stating that they could work as competent nurses equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.
Joint Director-cum-Registrar of the Nagaland Nursing Council, Tiakala Longkumer, shared her experiences as a student nurse and stressed the importance of compassion in an evolving healthcare environment shaped by artificial intelligence and advanced technology.

Prof Emi Humtsoe, Nursing Superintendent of the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), highlighted the significance of the Florence Nightingale Pledge. She noted that while nursing and the role of nurses had evolved over the years, the profession's core value remained “serving with humility and compassion.”
Principal-in-Charge of the college, Dr Rachel Ao, spoke on the commitment and resilience required of students as they embarked on their professional journey. She called on them to prepare for the responsibilities that come with the nursing profession.
