Longleng aims to ensure full coverage under MR campaign

Longleng, July 7 (MExN): In connection with Measles and Rubella vaccination campaign to be kicked off on October 3 all over the state of Nagaland, the District Task Force, Longleng held a review meeting under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, John Tsulise Sangtam on July 6 at DC’s Conference Hall, Longleng.  

According to a DIPR report, Dr. Meren, DPO (RCH & UIP), Longleng gave overall power point presentation on Measles & Rubella Campaign and its safety & protection to children. He informed that children between 9 months to 15 years will be vaccinated under the campaign covering all schools, hospitals, health centers, community and door to door campaign to ensure full coverage.  

Responding to queries raised by the members, Dr. Meren clarified that MR vaccine is the only protection for measles and rubella diseases. There is no specific cure and treatment for both measles and rubella but the diseases can be prevented only by vaccination. He further clarified that MR vaccine is well monitored, very safe and has been in use for more than 40 years. Besides India, millions from other countries have been administered this vaccine for millions of children safely. He also informed that like any other vaccination, there may be anxiety, worry and nervousness in some children but asked them not to panic. Children who have vaccinated MR vaccine earlier can also be vaccinated again as a supplementary dose to provide additional protection to children, he added.  

Addressing the review meeting, the DC appealed to all concern for cent percent coverage of MR campaign in the district and said that MR vaccination is a central flagship programme provided free of cost and the vaccine is not available in the private clinic. He informed that MR vaccination is a single shot vaccine for lifetime to control both measles and rubella diseases besides it controls all deformity during birth. He urged all concern to spread maximum awareness to the populace under their respective jurisdiction to ensure 100% coverage for the safety of our children and their future. He further asserted that to make our children free from measles and rubella diseases is in the hands of the parents which need to be well informed before receiving the vaccination.
