Longleng DEF achieves 100 percent vaccine coverage

Longleng, June 22 (MExN): The Longleng District Executive Force (DEF) has vaccinated all its personnel and their families with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, as per a report from the DIPR on Tuesday.

The cent percent coverage was achieved during a COVID-19 Vaccination Drive on June 22 at the office complex of Longleng Superintendent of Police wherein maximum police personnel also received their 2nd vaccine doses. 

According to the DIPR report, District Immunization Officer Dr Imnameren Phom spoke on the importance of vaccinating the police force who as frontline workers, are exposed to the outside world during their duties and have high chances of spreading the virus back to their families and communities. He said that with the initiative of the Longleng SP, the vaccination drive was conducted for the police personnel and their families to contain and control the spread of the virus and protect the frontline workers.

Dr Phom also asserted that vaccines prevent severity of symptoms and deaths, while adding that 94 percent of COVID-19 fatalities were among non-vaccinated patients. Vaccines not only protect us but also protect our family and community by breaking the chain of infection, he added. 

He also cautioned that a 3rd wave that might increase the vulnerability of children may strike at anytime. In this regard, he stated that the medical team is making all necessary precautionary arrangement for children in the hospital and to complete vaccination of parents and adults before the 3rd wave arrives.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police Yanithung Ezung encouraged the jawans and their families to come forward and available the opportunity given by the medical department. He also thanked the medical department for their concern for the Police force. 

Longleng Chief medical Officer Dr Obangjungla explained the vaccination process to the beneficiaries and informed that full immunity would develop only after the 2nd dose. She reminded the beneficiaries not to miss the 2nd dose which will be given after 3 months and urged them to continue to maintain all COVID-19 appropriate behaviour like using of mask, hand washing and social distancing even after they are vaccinated.
