Longleng, December 17 (MExN): On the direction of the Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO), a public rally was organised in Longleng by the Phom People's Council (PPC) to protest the December 4 and 5 incidents at Oting village and Mon town.

Held on December 14 and 15, the rally started from Phom Lempong junction to Hukphang junction and culminated at the DC's office Longleng, a DIPR report stated.

It said that the protestors submitted a representation to the Longleng Deputy Commissioner wherein the people of ENPO areas declared ‘non cooperation’ with the Indian Security Forces until their demands fulfilled and justice is delivered to the victim's families.

Some of the demands included revocation of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 from the entire North Eastern states and booking of officers and personnel involved in the December 4 and 5 incidents under relevant laws of the country and under Civil Court. It also demanded that the Union Home Minister withdraw his statement in the Indian Parliament wherein he had stated that, the security forces fired in self defence.

In terms of the ‘non cooperation’ against security forces, it said the Eastern Naga people would enforce it by abstaining from any National celebrations, or such activities, non-participation in Army civic programmes, and non-attendance to any of their official invitations. It also said that recruitment drives would not be allowed within Eastern Nagaland area.

The representation also stated that it would write to the state Government to immediately set up the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC).

Further, it declared December 4 and 5 as ‘Black Day’ in the entire ENPO jurisdiction.

The police and dobashis were detailed for duty during the protest rally which culminated peacefully, the DIPR report stated.
