Longon for better delivery of PHED services

Kohima: A meeting of all Engineers and Officers of PHED Nagaland was held at Zonal Council Hall Kohima on November 4. Minister for PHE, P Longon and Secretary, PHED Sentiyanger Imchen addressed the gathering and also had interactions with the Department Officers. 

The Minister, in his speech, made it clear that his Government is committed to serving the people of the State and that he would bring about the needed changes in the Department for better delivery of service to the people, a release said. He called upon the Officers to be sincere and transparent in their working while also emphasizing the need for harmony among the Officers. 

He said the Officers are Government servants paid for performing Government duty and are therefore duty bound. Among other specific points, he announced  his policy for immediate Decentralization of  Operation & Maintenance funds to Divisional Offices, early completion of survey works for status of water quality in rural habitations in the State enforcing the Superintending Engineers to tour  in their respective circles for checking of progress of works, effecting  transfer of all Junior Engineers  who have overstayed in one area beyond the normal tenure ,  and  his  commitment to personally inspect  achievement of annual targets  in various Districts.

He also made clear about his commitment for early completion of important urban water supply projects, in particular, that of Nagaland State capital town Kohima, Tuensang town and the Sewerage Scheme for Dimapur town.

The Secretary, while speaking at the meeting that things are made clear for complete stoppage of creating new liability by the Officers and early completion of data base for water supply in rural water habitations.

They also had an elaborate interaction with the Officers on a wide range of vital points and expounded on how the Government intends to tackle the various issues.   

The meeting was chaired by the Chief Engineer, PHED Er K.Khetovi Sumi who also highlighted on important activities and progress of the Department.

According to him the Department has made very significant progress in water tax revenue collection which is mainly due to introduction of Metering system.

He revealed that  apart from other taxes, the water tax revenue  collection alone had  increased from Rs 23.65 lakhs in 2000-01 to 81.93 lakhs in 2004-05 and that the figure is expected to increase significantly again during the current financial year.

The welcome speech was delivered by the Addl. Chief Engineer, PHED Er Mhondamo Ovung and highlights of the activities of the Capacity and Communication Development Unit (CCDU) were presented by the Executive Director CCDU Er Toluvi Kibami. Vote of thanks was tendered by Er Kevisekho Kruse, the Superintending Engineer (Monitoring & Investigation), PHED.
