“Look East” But Don’t Dehumanize Us

India’s relation with some of the easterly margins has been very unfair due to extra strong feelings of rejection plus identity assertiveness from different quarters, and India being brute and perfunctory to approach the unrelenting nature.

Gen. JJ Singh speaking from Shillong said that NE is related to seven countries within a parameter of just a thousand kilometres. These eastern fringes called “North East” are important for some understandable perspectives. One, among others, is to get befriended with the economically limping entities between the two economic giants. Both are concerned for one interest or the others. But---

Imagine when there is no crime too ghastly for a mindset to commit, no lie too base for it to exercise and no disguise too difficult to assume! Recent occurrences in New Delhi and other Indian big cities are reminiscent of Indian military brunt within enclosed and unnoticed times of the past.

This writing never attempts to working up frenzy out of this recurring incidence; it does nevertheless, aim at putting mindful and redouble efforts on the part of the law people to prevent such ugly happenings over again. Unheeded and unabated perpetration of such acts, the callousness of law department, both indicate the most contemptible racial prejudice which in turn reinforces the fear of eternal discrimination when the frontiers will be open to cascading forces having little or no respect for their very existence. Students, working sections at different strata have all experienced such very uncomfortable and low feeling moments living out there!

Really! Our hearts palpitate, our muscles constrict when those so called ‘advanced’ people or classes or superior beings attempt and rape or burn alive our women in Delhi when the latter reject beastly advances. Our girls are blamed for exposing their cleavages or white legs or being on not fitting accepted standard and so on. Can these so called higher humans live in and around bikini beaches with their middle portions protruding and ready to spear any women for creating the situation to arouse them, or that these women are on wrong dress code according to their culture?

A young girl committed suicide for the sake of her womanhood and for all, and that angered the entire nation. When finally the police supremo was put behind bar despite hectic dodging for over a decade the long arm of the law, a semblance of rest came about and the aggrieved souls consoled. How about one Ramchanphy Hongray, a 19 year girl from state Manipur who was finally burnt alive after Pushpam Sinha beastly advances rejected down right by the victim?

What can be the ultimate should a boy from the North East react against a menacing monkey in Delhi? This is never a far-fetched imagination. One Indian lady literally tried to push a Ph D. Student to hell from the NE for killing a dog that was not even hers. Are not we from the NE lower than a monkey or a dog according to the estimate of Indians in their cities?

Having said all these, we may well imagine, not irrationally or fanatically, that should RAP/PAP or for that matter, ILP are all no more, what could be the state of affairs then?

Delhi rulers should do well to give more serious thought on the ‘real feelings’ of this part of the region if they are really concerned with their ‘Look East’ economic framework, their political influence over South East Asian peoples. The process of remaking ‘oneness’ should start by taking into serious account the feelings of upcoming generation. We are aware that along with tourists and other economic profits that may accrue there will be forces which are otherwise foreign to us. We will be unstoppably on the side of a match that is never winnable for a long time to go. While we demand justice against dehumanizing actions committed, such uncontrolled passion amounting to most unusual events, and beastly whims of the domineering people totally discarding all human rights, ‘must’ be checked and booked for exemplary judgement in the collective interest of law and humanity.
