Low rate of HIV positive cases in Mon

Mon, February 20 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner, Mon & Chairperson, District Support group (DAAP) Angua I. Thou expressed with relief that in about 2.5 lakh population in Mon, only 96 persons have been detected as HIV positive so far, as per the annual report. 

A press note issued by DPRO Mon, Information Assistant, Ronshong Konyak stated that she was addressing the gathering in a programme which was organised as per the directives of Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS). Mon district conducted District Annual Action Plan (DAAP) 2012-13 preparation cum two days consultative workshop for the District Support Group (DSG) along with the different stake holders, at Conference Hall, Walo Organisation on February 20.

DC Mon advised the different stakeholder to impart education on awareness of HIV/AIDS to the people even up to the village and block levels, so that the number of positive cases becomes even lesser and gradually become nil. Further, the DC said that the health care of the district public is not only the responsibility of the medical department, but the NGO’s, civil societies and district administration. 

The key resource persons include Dr. Narola, Jt.Director, NSACS, Soubhagya Chakravarty, Regional Technical Officer (IDU), NACO- NERO and Dr. T Kikon, Mon. The programme was facilitated by Longyim Tzudir, District Programme Officer (DAPCU). Earlier, the DC Mon Angua I. Thou launched the Nutrition support scheme for the Women, through Women Department, Mon. Shansham Organisation, Turning Point organization, Walo Organisation, YASS Organisation, RRC, KNSK, MSF, Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI), Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Users Network, Positive Network (DLN), District Hospital, Mon, NRHM including District Administration attended the consultative workshop cum district annual action plan preparation.
