LRD team of Wokha, Phek and Zunheboto during the two-day field visit held on March 22 and 23.
Zunheboto, March 25 (MExN): With the objective of learning from each other, an inter district knowledge exchange programme of the Department of Land Resources, Nagaland was held on March 22 and 23.
During the two-day exchange programme, DPO Zunheboto V Vikugha Sema in a press release stated that the District Project Officers of Wokha and Phek led by Tepunol Yore and Levi B respectively visited Zunheboto district along with their subordinates.
Under the initiative of DPO Zunheboto, the team visited coffee nursery and Litchi Farm at Sutemi village.
Coffee nursery at Sutemi is grown under a natural shed and the team of LRD staff from Wokha and Phek expressed positive impression. They encouraged the coffee farmers to strictly adhere to the technical support and advice imparted to them by the Department. At the Litchi farm where 1000 trees are grown, the visiting team said they were positive about a sustainable livelihood through Litchi farming and provided tips to the farmers for a successful farming.
They also visited coffee farm at VK and surrounding villages.
The team from the two districts were also impressed by the NABARD Springshed project at Lukikhe village under Tokiye block where water generation considerably increased from 1 litre per minute to 4.5 litre per minute during the dry season through the intervention of LRD Zunheboto. After this intervention, around 40 households in the village are now availing water connection through the springshed.
On experimental basis, coffee seeds were procured from Nepal and planted at a higher altitude of 2060m above sea level in the same village and the plants are surviving.
The team were also taken to Tichibami village to see the cardamom farming. Tichibami village is the highest earning village out of cardamom farming under Zunheboto district. The village earns approximately Rs 65 lakh annually out of cardamom.
