DIMAPUR: A recent meeting of the Divisional Railways Consultative Committee (DRUCC) held at Lumding, Assam discussed at length negligence in the railway department and sought ways to improve the facilities including the proper functioning of existing facilities. It may be mentioned that Lumding is the headquarters of the Northeastern Frontier Railway. The meeting chaired by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) M.S. Sharma included board members from Dimapur.
The demand for installation of television monitors, ATM and a separate ticket counter for ladies in Dimapur was also raised.
The meeting at Lumding also discussed about the possibility of opening one travel agency to be allotted to private entrepreneurs in Dimapur with VIP reservation quota. The meeting reportedly took note of the fact that till date there was no such provision for Rail Travel Service Agents (RTSA) in the State.
The only provision presently in place is a Passenger Reservation System (PRS) at Kohima while another PRS at Rangapahar has been only recently commissioned to facilitate booking of reserved tickets for intending passengers.
Speaking separately to The Morung Express railway officials informed that the tender for commissioning of T.V. contract was floated. As of now there has been no response from interested parties to undertake the contract, said officials. Meanwhile, ‘the installation of ATM is in active consideration but certain surveys has to made’, they said.
On a separate counter for ladies, officials pointed out that minimum of 800 tickets were required to be sold per shift for opening an additional counter. “But the present number of tickets sold to lady passengers does not permit the opening of a new counter”, officials said.
Regarding setting up security fencing around the station, officials said that the process of removing land encroachment was in progress and no entry points were been set up to bar anti-social elements from infiltrating into the station area.
