LVC says Longzang VDB issue ‘resolved amicably’

DIMAPUR, MAY 23 (MExN): The Longzang Village Council (LVC) today stated that the issue of the Longzang VDB has been “resolved amicably” while stating that “the villagers decided to resolve the issue as per the customary practice under Anghship (The Village Chief) amicably since the Angh holds the rightful authority and power in the village administration as per Konyak customary and traditional practice.”

A press release from the LVC Chief Angh Lohwang, Head GB Menwan, Tahmao and Kaiwang stated that the “root of the issue” of Longzang VDB under Mon district lies in the RTI filed in 2020 seeking information of schemes implemented in the village. It informed that the department replied to the queries on time.

“However, without discussing, deliberating and verifying the matter at the village level, we dragged the matter to the media with a complaint to the higher authority out of sheer ignorance. This small issue could have been settled at the village level but we did not approach the department for clarification and the administration for conducting the VDB audit,” the LVC said.

The LVC apologized to the administration and the department concerned for “tarnishing the image and creating inconveniences especially the wrong figure of amount, misinformation and the outdated viral video which was circulated in the news and social media.” It further appealed to the government to revoke the suspension order issued to Longzang VDB.

It meanwhile cautioned any individual or group to desist from such practices in future and not to malign the image of the village. The LVC further informed that, the present Village Council Chairman and VDB Secretary have “willingly offered to resign not owing to the present issue but for the progress and development of the village.”
