Dimapur, August 16 (MExN): The Lotha Welfare Forum Delhi (LWFD) on Saturday hosted a virtual felicitation ceremony to honour Eric Yanthan for securing Rank 1 for the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).
The programme brought together family members, Lotha elders, academicians, community leaders, students and well-wishers to celebrate Yanthan's achievement and recognise the perseverance, discipline and dedication behind his success.
The programme began with an opening prayer led by Dr Chumbemo Khuvung, followed by felicitations from family representatives, Lotha elders, the Lotha Students' Union Delhi (LSUD) and the LWFD.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Prof Zuchamo Yanthan, Eric's uncle, attributed his success to disciplined focus, sustained hard work, determination and strong faith in God. He said Eric's journey should inspire young aspirants and urged him to discharge his new responsibilities with humility, integrity and commitment to public service.
Eric's maternal uncle, Dr Rembemo Odyuo, recalled his character and upbringing, describing him as a humble and exceptionally well-mannered person from his early years. He said Eric's warmth, respectfulness and genuine nature had earned him affection, admiration and goodwill across the colony.
Representing the Delhi Lotha elders, Prof Benrithung Murry congratulated Eric and highlighted the responsibilities that accompany public service. He encouraged young people to pursue excellence while cultivating integrity, compassion, humility and ethical leadership.
Murry said true achievement was measured not merely by position but by the quality of service rendered to society.
Further felicitations were extended by Rendemo Tsanglao on behalf of the LSUD and Wobeni Kithan on behalf of the LWFD. A token of appreciation was formally presented to Eric by Dr Zubenthung Humtsoe, CTC, on behalf of the forum.
Eric's academic achievements were also highlighted during the programme. He completed his schooling at Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, where he emerged as the State Topper in the Class XII Board Examinations.
He subsequently obtained a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics from St Stephen's College, University of Delhi, and an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
His academic foundation, coupled with sustained preparation for competitive examinations, eventually culminated in his securing Rank 1 for the DSP post through the NPSC.
An interactive session with students and competitive examination aspirants was among the highlights of the programme. Eric shared his preparation strategies, recommended reading materials and personal experiences, besides offering practical advice on overcoming challenges and maintaining momentum during a demanding preparation journey.
He emphasised consistency, self-discipline, patience, perseverance and effective time management as essential qualities for competitive examination aspirants.
Addressing the gathering, Eric expressed gratitude to his family, mentors, friends and the wider community for their constant encouragement and support.
Reflecting on his journey, he spoke about the challenges he encountered and the lessons he learnt along the way. He encouraged young aspirants to remain focused, resilient and steadfast in pursuing their goals, particularly during periods of uncertainty and setbacks.
The programme concluded with a prayer of blessing by Mhabemo Kithan, Pastor of the Delhi Lotha Baptist Church, followed by the closing prayer by Evangeline Odyuo Koireng.
