Wokha | May 23
The Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) has directed two suspected drug peddlers to leave Wokha district for five years, following a meeting on May 23 that discussed their alleged involvement in the sale of narcotics. The two individuals, identified as Nyanthung and Edward, have been instructed to vacate the district by May 26, the youth body informed.
The decision was taken after a meeting involving LYH office bearers and individuals suspected of drug peddling in the district. The action is in line with the organisation’s standing resolution against drug abuse and trafficking, it added. Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stand against the drug menace, the LYH said surprise inspections and monitoring exercises would continue across the district. It warned that any person found involved in drug peddling would face similar action.
The youth body also appealed to those engaged in such activities to desist from what it described as “social evils.” It noted that some individuals apprehended in the past had voluntarily approached the LYH office, admitted their involvement and pledged to discontinue such activities. Urging others to reform, the LYH asked drug peddlers to voluntarily surrender before stricter measures are enforced under its resolutions. The organisation further acknowledged the cooperation of various civil society organisations (CSOs) in its anti-drug campaign and thanked them for their continued support in combating substance abuse in Wokha district.
