The Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) has intensified its crackdown against illegal drug activities in Wokha district, continuing inspections and surprise operations aimed at curbing the menace of substance abuse.
In one such operation carried out on May 28, the Tsumang Youth Organisation apprehended an individual following allegations of involvement in illegal drug trade. Subsequently, a meeting was convened at the LYH office on May 29 to deliberate on the matter.
According to information shared by LYH, the accused was allegedly involved in drug peddling and smuggling narcotic substances from Merapani in Assam into Wokha district.
Reaffirming its commitment to tackling drug-related issues, LYH stated that, in accordance with its anti-drug resolution, the individual has been directed to leave Wokha district by June 3 and remain outside the district for a period of five years.
Meanwhile, two individuals identified as drug users and apprehended during the operation were counselled and advised to seek rehabilitation at the earliest.
The youth body further issued a stern warning to those involved in drug trafficking to desist from such activities, cautioning that individuals found indulging in the trade would face stringent action.
LYH also lauded the efforts of the Tsumang Colony Youth Organisation for its proactive role in the operation and encouraged other colony youth bodies in Wokha town to actively participate in community-led efforts to combat drug abuse.
Reiterating its support, the organisation affirmed that it would continue extending cooperation to initiatives aimed at ensuring a drug-free Wokha.
