The Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) conducted a cleanliness drive at the Public Ground, Wokha, on Friday, with the objective of promoting cleanliness and responsible waste disposal in public spaces.
The initiative saw participation from the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Youth Wing, Wokha Division; Team MLA 38 A/C Y M Humtsoe; Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wokha unit; Lotha Students’ Union (LSU); youths from Niropen Colony and Wokha Village; Natural Nagas; Tiyi Riders Wokha; Nepali Baptist Church Wokha; Wokha Town Council (WTC); police personnel and other well-wishers.
Addressing media persons during the programme, LYH President Mharomo V Murry said the cleanliness drive was part of the activities being undertaken ahead of the LYH Penalty Shootout Tournament, scheduled to be held on September 19.
Murry expressed concern over the improper disposal of waste in public areas, observing that public spaces were increasingly being used as dumping grounds. He urged citizens to take greater responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in public places, government buildings and offices, stressing that a clean environment contributes to better public health and civic responsibility.
He also invited the public to attend the penalty shootout tournament at the Public Ground from 9 a.m. onwards. The tournament will be held under the theme, “Shoot Goals, Not Drugs,” aimed at spreading awareness against drug abuse in the district.
Murry expressed appreciation to all individuals and organisations who supported the cleanliness drive through their participation and financial contributions.
Earlier, LYH Vice-President Benri Tsopoe led the programme and formally launched the cleanliness drive.
