Make Dimapur terminating point for Nagaland Express: Paiwang urges Railway Minister

Delhi, November 23 (MExN): Nagaland Minister for Transport, Civil Aviation, Railways and Land Resources, P Paiwang Konyak has urged the Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw to make Dimapur Railway Station the terminating point for the Nagaland Express.

Paiwang made the request during his meeting with Vaishnaw at the latter’s office in New Delhi on November 22, informed a press release.

During the meeting, Paiwang pointed out that in the State Government had requested the Railway Board to "revoke" the decision to make Ledo station as the terminating point for the Nagaland Express on two occasions earlier.

However, a favourable action from the Railway Board is still awaited, he added.  

The Union Railway Minister assured that he would personally look into the matter, informed the press release from Dy. Director and PRO Delhi, Government of Nagaland. 

As per the release, the Nagaland Express service, introduced in 2011 for journey between Dimapur and Guwahati, has helped the passengers from the State. However, it terminating pointed was later shifted to Ledo. 

The State Government of Nagaland has maintained that making Ledo station, located 150 km away from Dimapur, as the terminating point, is not justifiable, it said. 

While Dimapur station is the 'second highest' revenue station under Northeast Frontier Railway, the State Government has also noted that ‘Nagaland Express' has been the only passenger train which starts and terminates at the station, the release said. 

Moreover, the State Government also noted that Dimapur station is the only railway station which serves as the lifeline for the state.
Paiwang termed his meeting with the Union Minister for Railway as “fruitful,” the release added.
