‘Many wrongly interpret women empowerment’

Dimapur, March 9 (MExN): Dr. Dietho Koza, speaking on an occasion of International Women’s Day observed that men and women are equal and interdependent, while empowerment is simply increasing the strength and power of individuals and communities in the realms of social, education, economic etc. However, he also stated that many wrongly interpret women empowerment as a threat to masculinity and added that the paradox of Naga women in the society is injustice, discrimination, domestic violence and sexual violence. 

He was speaking at the International Women’s Day programme organised by the Family Planning Association of India, Nagaland Branch on March 8 at Phesachadu village, and approximately 10 kms away from Pfutsero town in Phek District. FPA India, Nagaland Branch chose the United Nation theme “Empower Rural Women- End Hunger and Poverty”. This was informed in a press note issued by Vincent Belho, Branch Manager FPA India, Nagaland Branch.

The note mentioned that other highlights of the day included Mobile Family Planning Clinic, whereby SRH services with women-folks was held and 23 women availed free medical consultancy. Two clients availed IUD as contraception, two clients accepted oral pills, and stock, and four clients received Urine Pregnancy Test, and four ANC check-up delivered. The Phesachadu Women also presented folk tunes, and film show was screened besides other entertainment presented in the evening by a team of ten FPA staffs.
