KOHIMA (MExN): In a bid to help ease the traffic congestion here, the District Administration along with the Kohima Municipal Council and Police force is going ahead with road widening project in several pockets of the city.

Currently, similar works are being carried out along the approach road connecting National Highway 39 and Classic Island junction.

“By widening this road, I foresee that it would ease out a lot of traffic congestion,” Kohima Deputy Commissioner Zhaleo Rio told The Morung Express.

He said that such a project was not a pleasant job but it had to be carried out. The ongoing works will go on for many weeks.

The District Administration had given 30 days time to the concerned to remove unauthorised or illegal constructions along the said road.

Saying that it had given enough time, the DC warned that it would use its force to remove all the structures if they do not comply with the directive.

Rio also appealed to the general public to extend their support towards this work.

Kohima Municipal Council chairperson Menuovilie Kesiezie said Kohima was never a planned city and that the roads had become “very congested” today.

The need to expand the road has been felt by every denizen. He hoped that the ongoing work would solve the traffic congestion to a certain extent.
