Kohima, March 27 (MExN): The Department of Geology, Model Christian College conducted a national webinar under the topic ‘landslide susceptibility of Kohima town, Nagaland’ with Dr GT Thong, Professor, Department of Geology, Nagaland University as resource person on March 26.
A press release from MCC stated that Dr Thong spoke extensively on taking heuristic approach on the slope stability as well as the drainage density of the state capital, Kohima and the importance of safe building approach while building projects is regarded crucial. Thong observed that people are in a rush to buy and put up buildings anywhere, regardless of the quality of the land, which puts many lives in danger. He provided photos of such buildings in the city of Kohima.
Geology students have the responsibility to create the awareness on such hazards, he said, while encouraging the participants to opt for eco-friendly technology and to adopt indigenous practices wherever applicable.
The programme was led by Renbeni Tsopoe while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Akano Yokha. Altogether, 170 participants from various institutions across the country participated in the webinar.
