MCTE holds workshop on communication, public speaking skills for student teachers

MOKOKCHUNG, OCTOBER 10 (MExN): The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Yimyu, organized a one-day workshop on “Communication Skills: Speak Clear, Sound Confident” on Friday, aimed at enhancing the communication competence of educators and student teachers.

The programme was chaired by Imtimenla Jamir and began with a welcome address by Dr T. Alemla Longkumer, Principal, MCTE, who emphasized the importance of clear communication in effective teaching. “Good teachers are clear communicators and good communicators are effective teachers,” she said.

T. Imsunaro, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Functional English, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, conducted the sessions, which focused on pronunciation, tone, intonation, and speaking confidently. The morning session, “How We Sound When We Speak”, addressed sound production, stress, and intonation. The second session, “It’s Not What You Say, It’s How You Say It”, highlighted tone, pitch, and rhythm in communication. The post-lunch session, “Speak English with Ease and Confidence”, introduced strategies to overcome hesitation and enhance fluency in public speaking.

A Q&A segment, moderated by Sekulu Nienu, Assistant Professor, MCTE, allowed participants to interact with the resource person. The valedictory session was chaired by Imlikumla Jamir, with reflections shared by student teacher Imsujungla Tzudir. A vote of thanks was delivered by Kerilhusa Peseyie, IQAC Co-ordinator.

The workshop concluded successfully, equipping participants with practical tools to improve spoken English and boost confidence as educators.
