Media persons sensitised on bye-election process

In view of the upcoming bye-election to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly for 51-Noksen (ST) Assembly Constituency to go on polls on April 17, media persons in the State capital were sensitised on election process and guidelines and media related affairs at Hotel Japfu on March 19. 

Nagaland Chief Election Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, informed that all the broad guidelines during COVID-19 to be followed for conduct of bye-elections issued in August last year would still be in place and will be carefully monitored, for which necessary arrangements are being set up. As per the guidelines, the polling time has been increased to 6:00 am-4:00 pm to ensure safety protocols are carefully observed and also to avoid disrupting the timing of the polling.  

Meanwhile, a state level appellate Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) has been constituted headed by CEO Abhijit Sinha, as Chairman, Member Secretary and four others as members to perform various functions, Additional CEO N Moa Jamir also informed. 

He said that this committee has been formed to decide appeals for both district and Addl. CEO committees on certification and of advertisements including electronic, SMS, social media, monitoring paid news etc and examine all cases of paid news against the decision of district MCMC or cases taken up on suo moto.

Also another state level MCMC has been constituted to entertain applications for certification of advertisements of political parties and candidates. It is headed by the Additional CEO and two other members 

The 51-Noksen (ST) AC has 11819 (6194 male and 5625 female) registered voters having a total of 23 polling stations. In the last 13th NLA, 2018, the constituency registered 84.46% voter turnout at 9812. The officials also informed that there are adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs.
