Interaction between ICAR-NRC Mithun Scientists and Offcicials of NABARD Nagaland.
Dimapur, March 20 (MExN): The ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema conducted an Interface Meeting with NABARD, Dimapur on March 19.
A team of expert speakers from NABARD, Dimapur and the Scientists of ICAR-NRC on Mithun participated in the meeting and shared their ideas for improved Mithun husbandry in Nagaland.
The program commenced with the visit of NABARD and ICAR-NRC on Mithun officials to the Mithun Farm.
Dr M H Khan, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, chaired the meeting and highlighted the prospects of Mithun husbandry in Nagaland. He also stressed on the importance of semi-intensive farming and the need for its adoption by Mithun farmers to become self-reliant.
Dr Kobu Khate, CTO, ICAR-NRC on Mithun spoke on the development and popularization of semi-intensive Mithun farming for earning a livelihood and highlighted the milk and draught potential of Mithun besides its highly nutritive organic meat.
Dr Nazrul Haque, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NRC on Mithun stressed on nutritional intervention in Mithun for sustainable Mithun production and urged to focus on the issues pertaining to nutrient composition and strategic propagation of Mithun fodder in Nagaland.
A representative for NABARD deliberated on the formation and promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and their role in mitigating farm risks so that farming becomes sustainable. He further spoke on the concept of ‘one district one product (ODOP)’.
The vote of thanks was proposed by L Leivang, GM/OIC, NABARD, Dimapur. The programme was coordinated by Dr Vivek Joshi, Scientist and Dr S S Hanah, Scientist (SS) from ICAR-NRC on Mithun.
