The unveiling of the Memorial Stone of Legislators of the 35 Zunheboto Assembly Constituency was held at the Multipurpose Hall, Zunheboto, in programme attended by church leaders, public representatives, and citizens.
K Tokugha Sukhalu, IAS (Retd), MLA and Advisor for Food & Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology, and Consumer Protection, and Chairman of the Urban Local Bodies & Village Council Committee, while addressing the gathering emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in the development of Zunheboto town.
He urged the people to take ownership of their town and safeguard public and government properties. “We have to start taking care of our properties whether public and government properties, we should take ownership and take a good care of it,” he added. “For public convenience we have Several plans and proposals for our town,” he revealed.
On the economic challenges of the state, Sukhalu noted, “Nagaland lacks independent revenue sources compared to other states and we continues to depend heavily on the GoI.” He added, “We don’t have our own state revenue unlike other state.” The MLA mentioned raising concerns regarding the NLTP Act in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, advocating for reconsideration of prohibition policies to enhance revenue generation.
Highlighting the role of the NPF, he described it as the oldest regional party and stressed the need to educate the public about its vision. He called upon the people to work with a sense of ownership, respect, and unity, while honouring past leaders and fostering love and cooperation among one another.
The programme was chaired by G Hekuto Jimo, President of NPF 35 Zunheboto AC. The event began with an invocation prayer offered by Rev Inakhu Chishi, Pastor of Zunheboto Town Sumi Baptist Church. The memorial stone was formally unveiled by Rev Kughato K Chophy, Executive Secretary, SBAK Nito Mount, followed by a dedicatory prayer by Rev Dr Daniel Chishi, Executive Secretary, SBAK Aizuto. The programme concluded with a benediction prayer by Dr Hutton Sumi, Pastor, Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto.
