The Merama Youth Organization (MYO) Phesama village observed platinum jubilee at Phesama village on December 20. 

Special Officer, Chief Minister Nagaland, Neibalie Rio speaking after unveiling the jubilee monolith stated that Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) for new recruitments introduced by the government includes Grade III posts ‘which may pose as a barrier for politicians.’ This will benefit future generation in the long run by encouraging fairness and transparency and the decision to undertake recruitment drive through a board was appreciated, he observed.

Neibalie opined that many people in our state seek government jobs because of one prevailing trend which was to get salary without attending benefits, citing other benefits such as pension and medical perks. ‘But the same have changed’ he mentioned as the government has introduced biometric system few years back and will roll back the same effectively owing to the fact that it was not well picked up due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that pension schemes for government service holders have also changed. 

“Youths have to look beyond government jobs for survival and look towards self sufficiency,” the speaker said and to encourage this, the government has organised many skill training in collaboration with different departments and loan packages are being introduced under the Chief Ministership. 

The speaker observed that Phesama village was an important tourist spot given the fact that the annual Hornbill Festival was organised in Kisama Heritage village and apart from that it have visitors or tourists year round. 

Appreciating the villagers for donning full traditional attire, he said ‘Nagas were known for our traditional practices and customs and our hospitality and it should not be lost.’ “Forget our way of life and the arts that our forefathers practiced, we are even forgetting how to wear our attires correctly,” Neibalie lamented while adding that these concepts and mentally among the younger generations is changing gradually. He asked the elders to be relentless in teaching the younger generation old practices to preserve them. 

During the occasion, Visede Kar blessed the jubilee monolith; Vipusa Zashümo, gave the traditional blessing and Rüsano Tepa spoke on behalf of Merama women married out of the khel. Neilhouvi Chütso chaired the programme and Razouvi Chütso, Chairman gave the welcome note. Traditional songs and dances were presented during the programme.
