Kohima: Minister for PWD (Roads & Bridges) Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu has said that there are 5,126 road labourers under the department. The minister replied this to MLA Tokheho in the assembly session Saturday. The minister also furnished the names of the labourers division wise in the state.
In supplementary question raised by the latter, the minister said that the labourers are engaged in road maintenance. On being asked amount spent on those labourers, the minister said the same will be supplied in the next assembly session. Tokheho, however, regretted that road maintenance in the form of jungle clearance, drainage and filling of pothole is hardly visible.
He continued that he had never seen the labourers working on road and called for the use of their service. He felt that something has to be done if they are not performing their duty. The PWD minister replied that the department will certainly look into it.
