Niuland, August 21 (MExN): Nagaland Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi on Friday inspected the road stretch between Zhekishe and Vikheto villages under EAC Aghunaqa Circle in Niuland district, where a major portion of the road has been washed away by incessant rainfall.

The minister was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, officials of the district administration, civil society organisations (CSOs) and frontal organisations.

During the visit, Zhimomi heard the grievances of residents of the affected villages and assured them that he would take up the matter at the earliest with the concerned authorities.

The particular road stretch serves as a lifeline for around 18 villages and also provides connectivity to neighbouring Assam. The damage has severely disrupted public commuting and transportation of goods, besides affecting school-going children. Economic activities in the area have also been hampered due to the disruption.

The Aghunaqa Kukami Kuqhakulu appealed to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, through the minister, to initiate repair works at the site at the earliest to prevent any major tragedy.

Later, Zhimomi visited the Border Rest House at Aghunaqa headquarters, where personnel of the 12th Indian Reserve (IR) battalion are stationed. He interacted with the jawans and encouraged them to maintain discipline and remain alert at all times, stressing that law and order and public security must not be compromised at any cost.
