Mokokchung, June 22 (MExN): The Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD) will organise the second edition of the Inter High School and Higher Secondary School Basketball Tournament from August 5 to 7 at the BAMD Basketball Court, Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
The tournament will be organised under the aegis of BAMD and is themed “Forging Future”.
The decision to hold the tournament was finalised during the first organising and sub-committee meeting held on June 19, where members deliberated on the event schedule and other related matters.
According to the organisers, the tournament aims to nurture young basketball talent and promote the sport at the grassroots level by providing school students with an opportunity to showcase their skills. The event is also intended to encourage sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and leadership among young athletes.
Participation is open to all high schools and higher secondary schools within Mokokchung district, including institutions from towns, villages and subdivisions. Schools from outside the district will also be allowed to participate.
The organisers said that four districts outside Mokokchung had expressed interest in joining the previous edition of the tournament. In view of the growing interest, invitations have been extended to interested schools beyond the district for this year’s event.
The association said the tournament seeks to strengthen basketball development among students and provide a platform for healthy competition, skill enhancement and exposure.
It further informed that the event would be conducted as an annual running trophy tournament.
The organising committee also announced that coaching support would be provided to schools on request, with mentors available to assist teams in their preparations.
Registration details, tournament guidelines and fixtures will be announced in due course, the organisers said. The committee appealed to schools and the community to extend their support and participation to make the tournament a success.
