
MOKOKCHUNG, DECEMBER 29 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC of the IPC in Khar village jurisdiction.
The DC’s order prohibited assembly of more than 5 persons and/or carrying of lethal weapons and firearms including lathis, dagger/machete, spears, or any other sharp and dangerous weapon in the Khar Village jurisdiction. The order came into effect from 9:00 PM of December 28 and will remain enforced for the next 48 hours subject to extension of the prohibitory orders.
Further, in pursuance of Section 21 of the Arms Act, 1959, all the arms license holders in Khar Village have been directed for deposition of their firearms to the nearest police station with immediate effect.
The prohibitory orders come following election-related violence in Khar Village on the afternoon of December 28 which took place between two intending candidates and their supporters resulting in physical injury, damage to houses and private vehicles.
The DC stated that there is apprehension of further deterioration of law and order, resulting in the breach of peace and tranquility in the village jurisdiction endangering human life and property.
