A symbolic heritage wall at IOC Junction, Aongza ward, Mokokchung was inaugurated by Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, ADC, Mokokchung & Administrator, Mokokchung Municipal Council on November 18. The heritage wall is a modest but a visionary project undertaken by the Aongza Ward Authority.
At the inaugural programme, R Longritemjen Ao, Chairman, Aongza ward gave a brief report on the construction of the heritage wall. He said that the wall was built to protect and safeguard our culture and tradition and to create a culturally friendly environment. He also said that the heritage wall is a symbolic wall representing symbolic artifacts and culture of the Ao Naga society. He added that the wall belongs to the whole of Mokokchung and that every citizen should protect, secure and maintain it in all possible manner.
Shashank Pratap Singh in his speech said that we need to preserve and promote our rich cultural heritage and traditions because our cultural heritage brings colours and joy in our life. He also thanked the land owners for donating private land for public welfare.
“The idea of donating private land needs to be promoted. We have to be flexible and liberal and think on the developmental plane. Sharing our land rights for the public welfare is a step towards progressive thinking and we should all try to promote it,” he said.
The programme was chaired by Dr Aoyimsen, Secretary, Aongza ward and the vote of thanks was given by Suneplong Kichu, President, Youth Association, Aongza ward.
