Naga People’s Front MLA, Moatoshi Longkumer, on October 8 inaugurated the Lungwiram village road, half of the cost which was funded by him under the Local Area Development Programme.

Later addressing the villagers after inspecting the concrete road, the NPF MLA who represents 2 Dimapur-II assembly seat lauded the villagers for timely completion of the road work with “complete transparency.”

Moatoshi said, “If such a transparent practice is followed by other village councils, then Nagaland would witness a sea change in terms of development.”

“Sorry to say, but many village councils are not transparent in utilization of development fund, be it centrally sponsored schemes or other state sponsored schemes,” he remarked.

He cited the alleged manipulation of MREGA job cards by some village councils even in direct benefit transfer.

On the occasion, the MLA further assured to pursue the case of recognition of Lungwiram village by the state government.

Chairman, Lungwiram Village Council (LVC), M Ringsanbo Zeliang, in his welcome address said no substantial development had reached the village since its establishment in 1982. The VCC said this was perhaps the first time that an elected representative had shown personal concern for the development of the village.

Besides giving fund for construction of the concrete road, Rinsangbo on behalf of the village also thanked the MLA for contributing fund towards the women SHG and extending entrepreneurship schemes to two educated unemployed youths of the village.

Secretary, LVC, N Wizabo, in his brief on road construction report informed that the concrete road measuring 1030 ft (length) and 15 ft (width) was completed in a month’s time at an approximate expenditure of Rs. 8.6 lakhs, of which the Moatoshi, MLA, contributed Rs. 4.5 lakhs.
