Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): The Center for Career Development and Placement of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), Shillong conducted a community outreach programme on career guidance in Dimapur from March 7 to 9.
The career guidance programme was conducted in four different institutions for the youth members and students of Lhomithi Baptist Akukuhou, PLS Auto Shell Industries Pvt Ltd, Skills Alli, and St Mary’s Montessori Higher Secondary School.
Dr Maribon Viray, Dean of students, MLCU addressed the importance of career development, working and studying. Dr Julian Oscar Dhar, Director, Marketing and Development, MLCU spoke on dignity of labour and a career option in entrepreneurship.
Dr Melodynia Marpna, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, MLCU stressed on effects of career beliefs in career choices and Donovan K Swer, Faculty, Department of Music, MLCU spoke about common careers and skills needed for career development.
The career guidance programme was provided for students in high school, higher secondary, undergraduate, post graduate levels including students pursuing vocational courses which amounted to more than 500 youths participating in the programme.
In addition to the career guidance program, International Women’s day was also observed on March 8, by releasing a book titled ‘Gender, Sexuality and Society in Northeast India: Contextual studies of Tribal Communities’ published by MLCU Press. The editors are Dr Ryntihlin Jennifer War, Associate Professor and Head of the Center for Gender, MLCU and Dr Glenn C Kharkongor, Chancellor, MLCU.
The book briefing was given by Dr Melodynia Marpna and the chief guest of the event was Professor Akali Sema, Dean, School of Agriculture Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University. In the event, the chief guest highlighted this year’s IWD theme ‘choose to challenge’ and the important role played by women to empower society.
She added that even though most women are in the forefront, inequality and bias is still common in most cultures.
The event was hosted by Dr Maribon Viray and Tokato V Chishi, the state Head of PLS Auto Shell Industries Pvt. Ltd launched the programme. Lino Yeptho, Mughato Zhimo and Moamongla Pongener, contributors of the book were also present in the book release.
