The Naga Chilli or Raja Mircha (King Chili), indigenous to Nagaland, was the first crop from the state to be given GI tag.
It is known to be one of the hottest chillies in the world, besides having an appealing aroma.
Owing to its alluring aroma, the Naga Chilli has invoked curiosity and awe amongst the people especially from those outside the state.
To give an opportunity to the visitors to have a taste of the Naga Chilli, the Department of Horticulture holds the Naga Chilli Eating Competition annually, which over the years has become a signature event of the annual Hornbill Festival attracting both local and foreign visitors.
