The Project is being implemented in a phased manner. Apart from the medical provision, integration of canteen, transport facilities and income augmentation avenues for the spouses are also being envisaged, according to T. John Longkumer, Director General of Police, Nagaland.
SAHYOG is a unique and remarkable effort to make a difference in the daily lives of the Police personnel and their families and a pioneering initiative to provide seamless access to facilities made available through the Department.
The Project Sahyog will be subsequently implemented to cover District Executive Forces (DEF), Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) Bns, PHQ, INT, NPTO and other Units of Nagaland Police Department.
Brief Introduction
The state of Nagaland has Seven NAP (India Reserve) Battalions with an approximate strength of 6657 officers, men and women. The IR Coys are deployed, both in urban and remote areas for maintenance of law and order and internal security of the state.
Despite various facilities being available at Battalion HQs, the families are found short of availing them since majority of them reside at Chümoukedima and Dimapur for comparative ease of living, especially in the terms of educational and medical facilities.
The NAP (IR) Units being a mobile force, is always on call for law and order and internal security related duties. The IR Bn are also deployed in various parts of the country for LWEI Anti-Naxal Operations and other election related duties. The nature of duties therefore heightens the responsibilities to handle family related matters. The need to strike a balance between one's commitment to government bonafide duties and the responsibility to provide for the family becomes paramount.
A study conducted found that a total of 2934 families reside in Chümoukedima and Dimapur with an average of five members per household which translates to an approximate 14, 670 members in the IR Bn. families.
“Therefore, a need was felt to devise a mechanism whereby, unhindered facilities including medical services, can be accessed by these families in times of need,” the booklet stated.
The all-female15 NAP (IR) Mahila Bn. also present a different challenge in health care in the form of making basic pre-natal, neo-natal health care and obstetrics and gynaecological facilities available for them, the booklet added.

To operate in any part of the State and to ensure mobility and intrepidness, procurement of various operational field level vehicles for the SOG and 44 vehicles have been procured by Nagaland Police.
