Mokokchung org decries flesh trade

Dimapur, February 27 (MExN): An organization in Mokokchung today decried what it says is flesh trade in the town and has urged citizens to raise voice against such activities. The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) referred to the recent arrest of three car thieves on February 12 and two “Naga women from Dimapur.”

“It has been confirmed that these two women were sex workers who accompanied the three criminals from Dimapur to Mokokchung. While it is heartening that Mokokchung police caught the criminals at the right time, the MTLT is disturbed to note that the two Naga women were selling off their dignity,” a note from the organization said. According to the organization the two women are in their late twenties and hailing from “Sandak village of Tuensang district” and the other hailing from “Longin village of Wokha district.” Both are presently residing in Dimapur and have “brought shame on the dignity of all Naga women,” the NGO asserted.

The NGO wondered “whether the Naga society has become so decadent that Naga woman should move around with criminals and be caught in another district.” The organization said there could be a bigger syndicate of “inter-district or inter-state” flesh-trade involving migrants. The MTLT also strongly appeals all right-thinking society to denounce the presence of “‘mobile prostitutes’ or any kind of prostitutes in the society.” It should be noted that prostitution is not only a social evil which leads to moral degradation, the MTLT stated, but it is also one of the main roots of spreading “harmful diseases” like HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

The NGO appeals to the law-enforcing agencies to check such illegal activities in the district and to pursue the recent case till the end so that it will “set a precedent to make our Nagaland a free area where criminals have no place to stay.”
