Organises pop-up store to support women entrepreneurs

Women Entrepreneur, Mokokchung (WEM) is a group of 17 home-based brands formed in July 2023 and based in Mokokchung Town. The group was formed with the aim of promoting women entrepreneurship and to encourage self-sufficiency. WEM is an outcome of a workshop organized by Watsu Mungdang in March 2023 where women folks were educated on marketing and business management and creating one’s own niche in the business world where Sheetal Gurung, Lead Consultant, Women in Wealth (WoW).
Ketinaro, member WEM, in an exclusive interview with The Morung Express informed that the group came about because of the help and guidance of the Watsu Mungdang. Ketinaro is a florist who owns a brand name Aurophile_Flores which she started during the lockdown in 2020 in Dimapur.
Ketinaro narrated that after she moved from Dimapur in 2022 and set up her flower business in Mokokchung she was reluctant and worried about the response. However she said that after being a part of WEM, her business has benefitted and expanded. She also added that having fellow women entrepreneurs in the group have helped her to gain many insights on running a business.
Aien, another home-based entrepreneur also testified about the joy of working together with fellow women stating that the encouragement and support system has been very detrimental in the growth of her business.
Aien weaves basket using old newspapers which she started ten years back when he was with her first child. She said that basket weaving started as a hobby and she never thought commercializing it. “I have been a part of WEM since last year and I can totally see my brand ‘Gratus’ growing and gaining a lot of popularity. I am now able to contribute to the household expenses through my business,” said Aien.
The WEM organizes ‘pop-up store’ from time to time in the town and participates in several events, representing the artistic and creative qualities of women entrepreneurs. They also organized a pop-up store in aid if the MMC building this year.
WEM organised a two day pop-up store at Imlong Place Mokokchung on 31 July and August 1. The pop-up store had 14 women entrepreneurs displaying and selling their products which ranged from natural manures, flowers, art and crafts, crochet products, jewellery, baked food etc. At the two-day event, WEM also welcomed participation from non-WEM members, broadening the platform for more women to showcase their talents and businesses.
Imtinungla, a young entrepreneur who own handmade_by_Pansy said that it was her first time participating in the WEM Pop -up store and said that everyone was so enthusiast to unleash their works. “They never left their jewellery tools and crochet tools, and were busy working and I can proudly say that they all represented their artistic and creative qualities of women with their diverse products. I am beyond blessed to have been a part of these hard-working women,” she added.
