Proposal to suggest closure of schools and institutions
Mon, April 16 (MExN): The Mon District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) during its meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on April 15 approved the proposal for shifting of Medical College Mon to Chah-yo area Mon village.
According to an official source, the State Land Acquisition Authority (SLAA) with the Chief Minister as Chairman had approved acquisition of 90 acres of land for the medical college site.
It may be mentioned that initially, Chi Ponghoa had been identified as the site for setting up the college. However, after land issues cropped up days after the foundation stone was laid on February 26, the new site was identified and finalized earlier in March.
The Board also passed the proposal for Model College for Women put up by KNSK President, Ponglem Konyak. It was highlighted that the location for the proposed college had been identified which would be free of cost.
Resurgence of COVID-19 cases discussed
Meanwhile, MLA and Chairman District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Mon, N Thongwang Konyak put up a proposal for the Board to send suggestions to the State for closure of schools and institutions and banning of mass gathering amid the resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
The Chairman appealed the house to deliberate on ways to tackle the second wave of COVID-19 during the meeting which was chaired by DC Mon, Thavaseelan K.
DIO Mon, Shasinle Tep briefed the house on the updates of COVID-19 vaccination in the district which stands at 8,763 administered with the first dose and 2,303 administered with the second dose. He stated that there are 18 Vaccination centres in the district which would increase to 36 from April 16 onwards. She also highlighted that there will be COVID-19 Vaccination Sessions conducted at workplaces in both public and private offices and urged upon the members of the house to cooperate with the department for its success.
Other proposals passed
According to a DIPR report, the Board unanimously passed other proposals which included financial assistance to expand apiary, creation of Medical Sub-Centre at Longphoah village, creation of additional Anganwadi Centre at Chingkao Nyaho village under Chen circle. The house agreed to pass the proposal brought out by ADC Aboi, Chumlamo Humtsoe NCS, after completion of Social Welfare Departmental procedures.
Proposal for creation of Eklvya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Angjangyong and Tobu was also passed. The DC also highlighted that the upcoming EMRS Longwa would be sanctioned by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Proposal for creation of livelihood opportunity for women and youth through livestock and poultry rearing was also passed. Chief Veterinary Officer Mon, Dr Vilatuo Rutsa highlighted the shortage of meat production in the District as compared to the demand and stressed on the importance of boosting the production for self-sufficiency. He stated that a total of 1450 Households focusing of women and 30-50 youths would be targeted in the first phase. Dr Rutsa also highlighted the recent case of mysterious deaths of pigs in Tobu area and stated that samples had been sent to Bhopal for determination of the cause.
Proposal for upgradation of Mount Longnam School Longching to class VII was also passed during the meeting.
ECS representative Vishak delivered a presentation on permaculture while Principal, Wangkhao College Mon, Wati Imchen presented on the challenges and problems faced by the college on its way to NAAC accreditation. Executive Engineers of PWD(R&B) Mon and Executive Engineer of Power delivered a presentation on their respective activities.
The meeting was attended by SP Mon Imnalensa Ao, Administrative officers and District HoDs and members of the board.
