Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 orientation programme organised by Public Heath Engineering Department, Mon was held at Council Hall Mon on August 10.
Medoseto Kiso, IEC Consultant spoke on awareness of Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018. He said that the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) has commissioned Swachh Sarvekshan Grameen 2018 (SSG 2018) through an independent survey agency to develop ranking of all districts of India on the basis of quantitative and qualitative sanitation (Swachhata) parameters. This ranking will be based on a comprehensive set of parameters including district-level surveys of public places like schools, anganwadis, churches, morung and bazaars.
Kiso mentioned that SSG is to survey panchayat and citizen’s perception of Swachhata and their recommendations for improvement of the program. As part of the Sarvekshan, States and Districts will be ranked for their sanitation and cleanliness status, where top performing states and districts will be awarded on October 2.
Er Imnasangba, SDO PHE Mon Sub-Division spoke on procedure and details of toilet installation. He urged the participants that whatever is received from the government should be utilized properly for the benefit of the villagers. This awareness campaign is necessary to eradicate open defecation in the country where every village should be clean and hygienic, he added.
The programme was chaired by S. Aochuba Longchar (Sanitation & Hygiene Consultant) and vote of thanks was delivered by KN Vijayan Pillai, Supervisor.
Altogether 190 participants from village council, WATSAN Committee and VDBs members under Mon District attended the awareness campaign.
