MON, OCTOBER 18 (MExN): A sum of Rs 50 lakh was given to the wife of a deceased healthcare worker who succumbed to COVID-19 while performing his duty under the establishment of Primary Health Center (PHC) Naginimora, Mon. 

A report from the DIPR informed that the Deputy Commissioner of Mon, on October 16, handed over a letter intimating the sanction of Rs 50 lakh under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package: Insurance Scheme for Health Workers Fighting COVID-19’.

“The amount was directly credited to the bank account of the wife of the deceased healthcare worker,” the report stated.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that the Union Government had launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package: Insurance Scheme for Health Workers Fighting COVID-19’ on April 24, 2021 in order to provide a safety net to the dependents of healthcare workers who are deputed to take care of COVID-19 patients. 

It provides a comprehensive personal cover of Rs 50 lakh to all healthcare providers including community health workers and private health workers drafted by the government for the care of COVID-19 patients and for those who may have come in direct contact of COVID-19 patients and were at risk of being impacted by it.
