Dimapur, November 23 (MExN): Notwithstanding the recent serious allegations of backdoor appointments in the state police department, reports of similar anomalies in the appointment of Havildars and ABSI in the just concluded 14th NAP (IR) recruitment exercise held in Chumukedima has surfaced again with some rejected candidates pointing out that candidates who failed to get through the written test were appointed in the final stage, which ultimately prompted the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union to cry foul over the whole recruitment process and demanding the board members to resign on moral grounds.
Pointing out the anomalies to The Morung Express, some rejected candidates expressed utter dissatisfaction over the manner in which the viva-voce was conducted. One failed candidate, stating that he meant no offence for the deserving candidates, seriously alleged and questioned how some candidates who failed to get through the ‘running test’ were allowed to sit for the written exam. He alleged that one candidate who failed in the running test appeared for the written test after he confessed that he was being ‘adjusted’ by the recruiters.
However, the most interesting point is that some candidates whose roll numbers did not figure in the newspaper when the department informed about the results have found a place in the final results as was published in a newspaper today, November 23.
On closer look, the one candidate for the post of ABSI, Chest No 239 has been cleared for appointment though that particular number has not been mentioned in the results of written test published in the newspapers on November 20.
The same is the case of selection of Havildars with the Chest numbers 394, 470 and 498 who have not been called for the viva voce as per news report published on November 18, stands selected.
“How come, those candidates whose chest numbers were not among the selected few of the written test got through in the (oral) interview,” the failed candidates wondered in a written statement issued for the media.
Besides, the candidates lamented that the viva-voce was conducted in a very unprofessional manner with the interviewers asking irrelevant questions like the fathers name, village name etc. The failed candidates alleged that the Board members conducting the interview were acting more so like a career counselor and asking them why they did not apply for the army or BSF etc, besides telling them to try in the next recruitment exercise in the same department, the advertisements of which were published on November 20 in the local dailies. “Why the highly regarded interview board members instead of interviewing, were acting as career guides and directing candidates which exams to appear and when and how,” they queried.
Moreover, the failed candidates also pointed out that the way in which the results were declared is not proper since the names of those selected in the final stage has not been mentioned, and no direction to the selected candidates when to report for training or other information is mentioned. “Are all the selected candidates personally known to the Board members,” the failed candidates questioned in their written statement. They said that it is usually the practice of recruiters to publish the names of the final selected candidates in the newspaper. However, the failed candidates, though frustrated but yet not discouraged said that they would try in the next recruitment rally.
DNSU cries foul
In the wake of the apparent anomalies in the recruitment of the police Havildars and ABSIs, the DNSU questioned the concern authorities how those candidates (chest nos for ABSI, 329 and Havildars 394, 470, 499) who not passed in the written examination were selected for appointment.
The DNSU also pointed out anomalies in the numbers of posts for recruitment.
“In their earlier advertisement they (Police Department) have said, that there were 11 posts for ABSI and 63 post for Havildar. These clearly show that there is certain discrepancies going on within the concern department,” the DNSU pointed out in a press statement today.
In this regard, the DNSU demanded the concern authorities to look into the matter and deliver justice.
Besides, the DNSU demanded the concern officials in the recruitment board to vacate their Chair on moral ground immediately, so that deserving candidates would be victimized again.
Furthermore, the DNSU urged the NSF to look into the matter and ‘join hands to bring justice to our generation’.
