More observes World Environment Day

Dimapur, June 6 (MExN): The Team Dimapur led by Nodal officer Dimapur, Y Kikheto Sema, few members of the Naga Council Dimapur led by its interim President Etsungmomo Kikon and ADC Dimapur planted more than 200 decorative trees at new Naga Cemetery Dimapur, on Saturday.

More than 300 trees will be planted in the following days by NCD and volunteers along the stretch before reaching the cemetery, a DIPR report informed. Associate Pastor LBCD, Yanbemo Lotha prayed on the occasion.

UCTE: Unity College of Teacher Education, Dimapur also organised a virtual celebration of World Environment Day.

Dr Devanand Sinha, Principal, UCTE highlighted the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ and requested students to pledge not to use plastic bags and plastic water bottles, to plant at least one sapling and to motivate at least ten friends or relatives to do the same so that it could multiply to thousands and Dimapur would become a green city soon.

Dr Krishnarathi A, Faculty in Science Education motivated the students to love nature and protect environment. 14 students presented papers on topics ranging from ecosystem, to flora, fauna, aquatic biomes, various forms of pollution, their impact and threats to biodiversity etc. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr K Balayogi, Vice Principal, UCTE.

Sao Chang College: Sao Chang College, Tuensang also hosted a National webinar to celebrate World Environment day with Dr Chongpi Tuboi, Project Scientist, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun as resource person. It was organized by IQAC in collaboration with NSS of Sao Chang College. 

Dr Tuboi spoke on ‘Ecosystem Restoration: Why the Need?’ where she emphasized the critical importance of the ecosystem and their restoration for the preservation of our planet. Explaining the different restoration approaches, she stressed upon the participants to work for the restoration of ecosystem through various activities including growing trees, greening cities, rewilding gardens, changing diets or cleaning up rivers.

Tongpangkokla, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany delivered the welcome address. Dr. Imnazenla Longkumer, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science conducted the proceeding while vote of thanks was said by Dipak Nath, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics.
