Peren, March 26 (MExN): Nagaland Advisor for Water Resources Namri Nchang along with officers from the district visited Lamhainamdi village on March 26, a DIPR report informed on Friday.
According to the DIPR report, the Advisor stated that there is no room for such disharmony within the Naga family. He also stated that ‘gun culture’ has to be stopped at all cost, while adding that such merciless taking of lives will not yield any results. Calling upon every intellectual to raise their voice for common goodness and condemn the inhuman act, he appealed the people to maintain peace and unity.
While expressing deepest regret for the loss of lives, the Advisor thanked the District Administration headed by the Deputy Commissioner, Police forces, public leaders from various organizations and the people from the district who stood by to do all necessities at the most needed moment. He also expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Heigumchu, Chairperson of Lamhainamdi village; Ngeuduing GB, Lamhainamd; Iherie Ndang and Zekuidi, the DIPR report stated.
Meanwhile, various organisations condemned the incident and urged the law enforcement agencies to expedite investigation and award befitting punishment at the earliest.
Sümi Hoho: In a press release on Friday, the Sümi Hoho (SH) condemned the incident and stated that the brutal killings were an “appalling act that will advance no cause or interest and must be condemned without reservation.” It also acknowledged the state government for setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the incident and expressed hope that the guilty would be given befitting punishment as per the laws of the land. It also urged the government to re-intensify restrictive measures around the disputed areas, so as to avoid further incidents until a soluble outcome is arrived at.
Further, the SH stated its commitment towards maintaining communal harmony and as such, advised its members against “stoking the fires of tribalism on any social media platform.” The release stated that the Hoho does not endorse such views and opinion, which further creates division in our society, while categorically stating that the unfortunate incident was “not a direct result of an internecine conflict.”
“Our deepest sympathies are with the bereaved families who have conducted themselves with immense dignity during a period of unimaginable distress and heartache," it said while stating its solidarity with the rest of the Naga community and expressing condolences to the bereaved families.
AZSU (AMN): In a separate statement, the All Zeliangrong Students' Union Assam, Manipur & Nagaland vehemently condemned the barbaric killing and arson, terming it as a, “handiwork work to sabotage the peace among fellow Nagas.” It urged all Naga citizens to condemn the act and also called upon the investigative agency and Government of Nagaland to conduct speedy investigation and award the culprits with befitting punishment at the earliest.
LCN: The Liangmai community under the aegis of Liangmai Council Nagaland expressed anguish over the loss of three innocent lives and condemned the inhumane and despicable act of brutality. The council further appealed the law enforcement agencies of the state to leave no stone unturned in investigating the matter and punishing the culprit, in order to bring justice to the victims. The LCN also conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace.
NDPP Peren: While condemning the incident, the NDPP Peren Region stated that shedding of blood would not yield any positive results but rather create tensions among Naga brothers. The party further stated that the spirit of oneness and peace must be inculcated so that all existing issues can be resolved amicably. It further urged the Government to book those who have taken the law in their own hands under relevant sections of the law and deliver justice at the earliest, while conveying its deepest condolences to the family members of the three brothers.
NPCC: The NPCC meanwhile condemned the killings and took the State Government to task, over its failure to make any arrests even after four days had passed since the incident. The party demanded that justice be delivered without fear and prejudice, while conveying heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
NPU: The Nallonglun Progressive Union (NPU) condemned the incident and urged the government of the day to bring about justice to the victims and penalize the barbaric culprits according to the crime. The government should put all its effort to do away with all those anti-social parasite elements in our society, it said in a press release.
It further claimed that “the security posted at the crime site do nothing to save their lives,” and as such, demanded that “the IRB personnel deployed at Lamhainamdi, Superintendent Police (SP) and District Administrator (DC) and other responsible people are to be suspended immediately.”
The NPU also said that the government should pay appropriate ex-gratia and compensation to the victims’ families while adding the government would be held responsible of any untoward incidents if it failed to meet the aforementioned demands.
NWHD: The Naga Women Hoho Dimapur expressed pain at the loss of three innocent lives and stated that the uncivilized act has tarnished the image of the state. It also appealed all citizens to maintain peace and harmony and refrain from indulging in any form of violence. The NWHD called for justice and at the same time appealed the concerned authority for timely intervention and immediate action to be taken as per the law to avoid further disturbance and chaos.
PUUPDN: The Pick-Up Union Peren District Nagaland (PUUPDN) unequivocally condemned the killings and urged the law enforcing agencies and the Government of Nagaland to leave no stone unturned in arresting the perpetrators and awarding befitting punishment as per the law of the land.
It also conveyed condolences to the family members of the victims and prayed that God would heal the ineffable pain and suffering of the family members.
SNUNS: The Southern Nagas Union of Nagaland State, dismayed over the March 22 incident, urged all citizens to stay away from all kinds of violence. “It is unbelievable that such delirious act within the Naga brotherhood has caused severe damage including loss of life,” it stated while conveying condolences to the bereaved family members.
TSU: The Tening Students' Union also strongly condemned the brutal killings and appealed the Government of Nagaland to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the culprits behind the killings are awarded befitting punishment in accordance with the law and justice is delivered to the victims at the earliest. The Union also extended deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed that the departed souls find their peace.
NGBF: Meanwhile, the Nagaland Gaonbura Federation expressed sorrow over the killings and stated that “At this crucial juncture, where Nagas are praying for peace and reconciliation, committing such a gruesome act has invited condemnation from all sections of society.”
Further stating that “no amount of arguments and justifications can ever make it right,” the NGBF made an appeal to the government of the day to set up a commission to investigate the unfortunate incident and book the perpetrators as soon as possible to prevent further outrage. It also requested all Nagas “not to divert the incident into tribalism issue,” and allow the law take its own course of actions. It also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace.
