MoU for Multi-parking in Kohima

Dimapur, August 27 (MExN): A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the department of Nagaland State Transport and Urban Development department to construct a multi-level car parking at the NST bus station site in Kohima. The MoU was inked August 27. Under the MoU the existing NST bus station “building site complex” will be handed over to Urban Development department for construction of a multi-level car parking facility. The project shall be taken up under urban infrastructure and governance under the JNNURM programme. The memorandum is envisaged to ease traffic congestion in Kohima town and to also provide vehicles parking facilities. The department of Urban Development said Kohima is a mission city under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Under this mission, a multi-level car parking facility was proposed to be constructed at two locations.  “Besides NST Complex, the other site is the erstwhile old medical directorate building near PR Hill junction. The projects are expected to be completed by 2012-13. It is expected that the facilities when operational will bring about much needed relief to the people facing acute shortage of parking space in the town,” the department said.
