Chümoukedima, July 2 (MExN): The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) on July 2 reviewed the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes and developmental activities in Nagaland's Chümoukedima district, with Member of Parliament and DISHA Chairperson for Nagaland S Supongmeren Jamir stressing the need for better coordination, effective monitoring and improved service delivery.

Chairing the meeting at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall in Chümoukedima, Jamir said the primary objective of the meeting was to assess the progress made by various departments in achieving their targets, identify challenges in implementation and collectively find practical solutions to improve developmental outcomes in the district.

He said developmental activities should reach every section of society and emphasised that the purpose of the DISHA committee was to strengthen governance and improve service delivery rather than oppose any department or the state government.

Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima Polan John welcomed administrative officers, heads of departments and representatives of village councils, and thanked all departments for their feedback and cooperation in monitoring developmental programmes.

The meeting began with a review of the action taken report of the previous DISHA meeting held on July 16, 2025. Follow-up reports were presented by the departments of Industries, Rural Development, Public Health Engineering, Agriculture and Youth Resources, highlighting progress made on issues discussed during the previous meeting.

PowerPoint presentations on the implementation of various schemes and ongoing developmental works were made by District Agriculture Officer Moainla Pongen on behalf of the Agriculture Department, District Employment Officer Ethel representing the Labour Department, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Dr Michael Imchen representing the department, and District Urban Development Officer Medosenuo on behalf of the Urban Development Department.

The committee held detailed discussions on the status of ongoing developmental projects across the district, examined challenges affecting implementation and suggested measures to improve the delivery of government schemes.

Among the major issues deliberated were sanitation, water stress, solid waste management and drainage. Members stressed the need for sustainable development strategies and underscored the importance of addressing urban infrastructure challenges.

The meeting also highlighted the need to construct rainwater harvesting and stormwater drainage systems to mitigate urban flooding and improve the district's resilience to water-related challenges.

During the deliberations, Jamir emphasised the importance of proper documentation and directed departments to maintain accurate records of their achievements and ensure sound data management, saying these were essential indicators of progress and important for effective planning.

He also called for greater convergence among departments to maximise the impact of government programmes.

Referring to welfare measures under the Labour Department, Jamir urged officials to intensify awareness campaigns in clusters of villages so that workers and youth are well informed about government schemes, particularly those related to eSHRAM registration and labour cards.

He also encouraged the department to explore ways to extend the benefits of labour welfare schemes to more youths across Nagaland.

The MP urged all stakeholders to continue working in close coordination for the overall development of Chumoukedima district and thanked participating departments and officials for their active contribution to the deliberations.
