The Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) held its 17th Annual Nagaland Muslim Students' felicitation programme here today at Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. Altogether 35 HSLC students and 13 HSSLC students were felicitated. Various awards were also given to the meritorious students in different fields. The MCD communal harmony award was presented to Kuhoi Zhimo.
Bringing greetings from the office of the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA), special invitee of the event, General Secretary, H Anilo Khing, said that this was not just another felicitation programme, but a celebration of success. Standing true to its motto, “Unity, Integrity and Communal Harmony,” Khing lauded the MCD for harvesting its fruits of which the society as a whole longs for.
While regretting that the Chief Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, J Alam IAS could not make it to the programme owing to the unfortunate incident that took place at Oting village last evening, Khing said that his presence would have made more meaning. “But I stand here humbled and we stand in solidarity with our Konyak brothers and sisters. It is our prayer that justice will be delivered at the earliest,” he added.
He congratulated the meritorious students in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations held this year and further urged them to implement their knowledge for the good of the society.
“I was also a student, and I failed once in class 12,” he said. Narrating a phase of his student life at Kohima Science College where he flunked the selection, he said that initially he did not have the courage to sit with his juniors because of 'false ego and pride.' While it took a lot of courage to be with his juniors, he said he was happy to be convicted sooner that false pride and ego would not take him far.
“Your false ego and your false pride will not take you anywhere. Don’t let false pride and ego take control of you,” Khing impressed upon the gathering. Terming this phase of passing class 10 and 12 as “your transition,” he also advised upon the parents to give them space of freedom for them to exercise their passion during this phase.
“Your real life has started now. After graduation, you stand for two things. Either you become a job seeker or you become a job provider. Suggestions will pour in from every end, but it us up to you, whether you will be a contributing member or a liability to the society.” Khing further encouraged the young minds to “be sincere towards what you do in life.”
Also taking the opportunity to introduce the sport of Cricket, he said that today, sports is providing a lot of opportunities. “Sports is not only about hobby, it can be your life and breadwinner. Sports can bring food to the table. Sports can bring development in the society.”
Stating that Nagaland Cricket has grown to what it is today because of the pioneer and leaders, Khing said that we still have miles to travel but today, the association is developing and unless we take up the opportunity knowing fully that it is the right thing, “it is us who is going to miss the bus,” he added. He further appealed to the citizens of Dimapur to continue to support them. “The test of our progress is not whether we have much abundance, but it is whether we provide enough to those who have very little.”
The felicitation programme began in 2000 after the inception of the Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) to motivate and push the students to thrive in their academic fields. The students initially began with an average percentage, but are now in the benchmark of 80%, Working President of MCD, Ahidur Rahman stated, while adding that “today is the best academic performance of our community.”
Earlier in the event, welcome speech was given by Dr A Khalique Talukdar, Principal Public College of Commerce & Advisor MCD. He congratulated all the successful candidates at the HSLC and HSSLC despite of the hardship faced because of the pandemic.
The MCD also informed the students that there is a special package for any student who is committed to try for the UPSC IAS service since the last three years.
Speeches were also delivered by the Presidents of Naga Council Dimapur, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union and Basu Damani. The MCD thanked all the leaders from different communities for being a part of this event, despite the hard times.
