NABARD inaugurate farmers club in Waromung

Dimapur, July 9 (MExN): MK Mandal, Deputy General Manager, NABARD, Nagaland Regional Office inaugurated the ATSUNGS’ Farmers Club in Waromung Village on July 5 at Youth Hall in Mokokchung district.
A press note received here stated that the Farmers Club has been formed under Farmers’ Club Programme of NABARD and attached with Mangkolemba Branch of State Bank of India (SBI). Molungs Women and Child Welfare Society (MWCWS) has been assigned by NABARD to facilitate the formation and nurturing of these farmers clubs for the next three years with grant support from NABARD.
In his inaugural speech, Mandal spoke on the need to address the problems of farmers on a priority basis. He said that India’s economy depends on agriculture and thus the farmers deserve a better deal. Realizing on the importance, NABARD has decided to promote Farmers Clubs in the rural areas to provide focused attention in three core areas – dissemination of information of various schemes and projects of GOI and State Government formulated for the benefit of farmers, transfer of scientific and modern technology in field agriculture and agri. allied sectors and development through credit, the note stated.
It also added that the club members are expected to equip themselves with useful information by organizing frequent training programmes, awareness/orientation programmes in the field of agriculture and allied activities in association with different govt. departments, agriculture institutes and banks. NABARD will meet the expenses of the farmers clubs for the initial three years through grant assistance. The Chief Managers, Ojha of SBI, Mokokchung Town, enlightened the farmers club about the various projects/ schemes of SBI and requested them to work hard and to utilize the bank loan in proper ways. SBI has committed to extend all possible support to the Framers Club for development of the farmers of Waromung Village.
The inauguration programme was followed by a Base Level Orientation Training (BLOT) which was also facilitated by Mandal from NABARD and Secretary of Molungs Women and Child Welfare Society (MWCWS). During the training, useful information on the routine and non-routine activities of farmers clubs, bank linkages and the “dos and don’ts” of the farmers club members individually and collectively were imparted to them. They were also guided on preparation of calendar of activities of Farmers Club in a planned manner and maintenance of books of accounts and records.
